History Curriculum
Intent for our History Curriculum
The intent of our History Curriculum is to cultivate a lasting love and passion for history in all children. This enthusiasm is essential for continuous learning and creates connections to the narratives that shape our society. Our curriculum focuses on more than memorising facts; it aims to engage children in stories that link them to their heritage and the wider world.
Our curriculum enables children to acquire vital knowledge and understanding of significant historical events, figures, and themes, preparing them for their next stages of life. A solid grasp of history enables them to contextualise their experiences, appreciate the past, and make informed decisions today, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
Additionally, our curriculum emphasises the development of transferable historical skills such as critical thinking, inquiry, analysis, and communication. These skills are not only applicable in history but also enhance learning across diverse subjects and everyday situations, equipping children for future challenges in education and beyond.
Our History Curriculum sets high expectations while addressing the diverse needs of all learners. Every child in our school, regardless of background or ability, encounters a stimulating history programme that ignites curiosity and fosters critical thinking. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, we nurture not only knowledgeable historians but also informed individuals ready to contribute positively to society.
