PSHE Curriculum

Intent for our P.S.H.E. Curriculum

At the heart of our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Curriculum is the belief that every child should have a solid understanding of themselves and the world they live in. Through our curriculum, children will gain essential knowledge and skills to help them as they move on to the next stages of their lives. We want to ensure that, as they transition to secondary school or other pathways, they feel equipped to face challenges with resilience and to make thoughtful choices that benefit their well-being and that of those around them.

Our PSHE curriculum teaches skills and concepts that are easily transferable to a range of situations. We recognise that what students learn in PSHE is vital not only in school but also in their personal and social lives. By emphasising these important skills, we want to prepare children for whatever they may encounter in the future and to foster a love for learning that lasts.

We set high expectations for our students but are also committed to meeting the needs of each individual learner. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive, ensuring that it reflects the diverse backgrounds and abilities present in our classrooms. We believe every child has the potential to succeed, and we work hard to create an inspiring and supportive environment where they can thrive.

Our Curriculum not only provides children with the vital knowledge and skills they need but also nurtures a genuine enthusiasm for learning that contributes to their overall development. We are dedicated to helping young people grow into well-rounded individuals who can confidently embrace the future and contribute positively to their communities and the wider world

PSHE Units / School Values

In our P.S.H.E. Curriculum, we have six themes which are taught across every year group; Me & My Relationships, Valuing Difference, Keeping Myself Safe, Rights & Responsibilities, Being My Best, Growing & Changing.

We have also adopted twelve School Values which we promote throughout all our activities in school. They are: Respect, Compassion, Trust, Helpfulness, Friendship, Fairness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Perseverance, Generosity and Truthfulness.

Throughout each half term, we focus on two of our values in assemblies and circle time sessions, so that our children understand what they mean and how they can be ‘shown’- enabling all pupils to 'be the best they can be'! There is a display in the main corridor of our school values with a variety of books linked to the values. Each year a school value award is presented during a trophy assembly for one child per year group that has consistently shown our Grosvenor Road and British Values. Our curriculum ensures progression to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are and equip them for life and learning.
